week 3, part 1: mixed berry pie
i actually intended to make raspberry rhubarb pie, but it turns out fairway doesn’t get their shipment of rhubarb until tomorrow, so no dice. jennifer and i then decided to just make raspberry blackberry pie, but then after mixing everything together, we didn’t have enough berries so we just threw in some blueberries from her fridge.
on a side note, i went to fairway for the first time today and it’s heavenly. i tried cheese made with pure truffle that cost $50.
anyway, next time we need to add more cornstarch or ground tapioca because it ended up something like pie soup. the berries had a lot of water in them, thereby making the filling watery. it still tasted alright, albeit a little sour. we used refrigerated dough because we decided that making our own dough with no experience had a very high potential for failure. i think i’ll try making my own dough and try making a pie with at least semi-solid filling next time.
